Firewall
Next Generation Firewall
A network security device or software that combines traditional firewall functionality with advanced security features, such as deep packet inspection, intrusion prevention, application control, and user identification. NGFWs are designed to provide enhanced security and visibility into network traffic by inspecting and analyzing traffic at the application layer, rather than just at the network layer.
Intrusion Protection System (IPS)
A network security device or software that monitors network traffic for signs of malicious activity or policy violations, and takes action to prevent or block such activity. IPSs are designed to provide an additional layer of protection beyond traditional firewalls and antivirus solutions, by actively inspecting network traffic in real-time and blocking any suspicious or unauthorized activity.
Unified Threat Management (UTM)
a network security solution that combines multiple security functions into a single platform, providing comprehensive protection against a wide range of threats. UTM devices or software typically include features such as firewall, intrusion detection and prevention, antivirus and anti-malware, content filtering, and virtual private networking (VPN), all integrated into a single appliance or software package.
Network Access Control
Security solution that enforces policies and controls access to network resources based on the identity and compliance status of devices and users. NAC solutions typically consist of hardware or software-based systems that integrate with the network infrastructure to identify, authenticate, and authorize devices and users before allowing them to connect to the network.
Email Security Gateways
A network security solution that is designed to protect email communication from a range of threats such as spam, malware, phishing, and other email-borne threats. An email security gateway typically sits between an organization's email server and the Internet, filtering incoming and outgoing email traffic and enforcing email security policies.
Web Application Firewall (WAF)
A network security solution that is designed to protect web applications from a range of threats such as application-layer attacks, SQL injection, cross-site scripting, and other web-based attacks. A WAF typically sits between an organization's web application and the Internet, filtering incoming and outgoing web traffic and enforcing web security policies.
VPN Gateways
A network device or service that provides secure and encrypted connectivity between remote users and networks over the public Internet. VPN gateways create a private and secure network connection that can be used to access resources and services on a remote network as if the user were physically present on that network.
